The Breville Kitchen Appliance Company – A Quick History

The Breville Radio company was established in Australia in 1932 and originally produced only radios. The name, Breville, was a combination of the surnames of the co-founders, Bill O’Brien and Harry Norville. During World War Two the company aided the war effort by manufacturing mine detectors. After the war, the radio business continued until one of the founders, Bill O’Brien, sensed a change coming in the shape of television and the radio business was sold, turning his attention to the world of small appliances.

Bill O’Brien led Breville until 1968 when he resigned his position as managing director and his son John O’Brien, took over. Under John’s leadership the Breville Research and Development Centre was founded and Breville flourished.

Breville has always been a major innovator and has led the way with many technical advances. During the 1970s, Breville produced the scissor-action sandwich toaster and the Kitchen Whiz food processor which revolutionised Australian kitchens – the sandwich toaster became one of the most successful product launches ever when it reached about 10{ccdfc561878e9246e1a18999d5a21dd519dc1b039f0564ab04c9b3978134babb} of Australian households in its first year of production, with an astounding 400,000 sales.

Breville has always used feedback from its customers to help improve its products and to introduce new appliances. Their success has not been limited to Australia with numerous overseas offices and awards to match. Breville now operates in over thirty countries, including the USA.

Breville was acquired by Housewares International who have continued to uphold Brevilles long-established standards. Breville today has an extensive product catalogue and its products can be found on shelves of electrical stores around the world. The company still holds true to its original values and always seeks to give its customers a satisfying experience.

Breville’s ikon range of products is a good sample of their current range. The ikon range includes blenders, toasters, a top-rated juicer and a cordless kettle. Of course, Breville has a far more extensive product range but this sub-range showcases some great looking, quality products all with truly useful features and benefits. From the moment you pick an appliance up the quality is evident. These are most definitely not appliances with that “planned obsolescence” feel.

Breville still has the same commitment to quality and customer which helped it establish and maintain a great position in the market for over seventy-eight years. Innovation and high standards will help keep Breville at the forefront for a long time to come.…

Pizza, hamburgers and similar foods contain a lot of dead calories. It can add a lot of kilos to your mid riff and the same is true for your dog.  A small dog like a Shih Tzu does not have to eat a lot of junk food before the extra kilograms begin to show. Even worse, once your dog takes a liking to junk food, he may want it all the time and your dog will not get all the eating these type of foods can lead to malnutrition. Malnutrition and being overweight can have serious long term consequences to your dog’s health.

Chocolate

The ingredient in chocolate that is toxic to your dog is theobromine. It takes roughly 150mg per kilogram of body weight for theobromine to cause a toxic reaction. Bakers chocolate is the most dangerous because it contains 390mg theobromine per ounce. Semi sweet chocolate is less dangerous with Milk Chocolate being the least dangerous. Food Brings People Together and at Its Essence is Love, Life and the Heart of Society

Food sustains life, yet it is so much more than something we need to nourish our bodies. Food at its essence is love, life and the heart of society. Food brings people together. It is the shared flavors of friendship and community. We like being with others enjoying the tastes and textures of food. Often through these shared experiences intimacy develops, memories exist and relationships thrive.

We fondly remember childhood food experiences, often wishing to duplicate those tastes that remind of us of home. Food is at the center of our sense of family and relationships. Certain aromas transport us back in time to the people and places we care about. We remember family picnics and food festivals.

No matter who we are or from which culture we come, every society gives careful thought to the daily preparation of meals for family, friends or even strangers. Food means love. This is true whether we are the cook or the one who eats.

Food is at the heart of society. We learn how to behave in society and interact with others in life based on the kind of eating ritual we experienced growing up. We are connected to others near and far through foods. We are interdependent because of global trade and commerce. The food on our tables comes from farmers everywhere throughout our planet.

Food, more than any other element in society, binds us together. Our lives are emotionally impacted by food production around the world. In some countries, people go hungry, while in others, people suffer illness caused by an over abundance of food.

A 13th-century Buddhist leader-philosopher, Nichiren, while in exile, wrote in a letter thanking a follower for sending him food: “Rice is not simply rice, it is life itself.” Food is life itself. It is our link with each other. Food is love, life and at the heart of society. Fittingly, the foods that are best for our bodies are also best for our society.…

How To Plan A Retirement Party

Your retirement party website will help you keep track of all your expenses, when to make bookings and when payments are due.

The party can be held at the office, at someone’s home, in a restaurant, hotel, club, art gallery, or casino. Food Safety to Help Avoid Bears in the Wilderness

If you plan on venturing into the wilderness on a camping or hiking trip, you need to be prepared to deal with potentially dangerous wildlife. Bears in particular need to be respected and avoided. One of the easiest ways to avoid bears is to be careful with storing and preparing food.

Choosing the Safest Camping Food

Strong smelling food like tuna or garlic can attract bears easiest. When you choose which foods to pack, try to avoid foods that have strong odors. Canned or dried food is a much better choice. Not only do these types of food last longer, but they give off fewer odors too. Individual packaged food is better than larger packages that have to be manually resealed.

Safely Storing Your Camping Food

One mistake many campers make is not taking adequate precautions for storing food. All too often food is stored either in the same tent you sleep in or in a nearby cooler. This can be a very bad idea. You are essentially drawing the bears right to wear you are vulnerably sleeping.

Your food should be stored a good distance away from your tent (at least 100 meters). To prevent food odors from blowing through your campsite, your food storage location should also be downwind from your campsite. When picking a location to store food, think of how close to your campsite you would be comfortable having bears. Obviously that is not very close at all.

For actual food storage, you have a few choices. There are bear proof containers available in a variety of sizes. These bear proof storage lockers make it nearly impossible for bears to get at your food. It might not be practical to carry one of these durable containers to camp though.

The more traditional method for camping food storage is to hang your food up in a tree in an airtight bag. Since bears do have some tree climbing capabilities, it is best to hang the food at least 5 meters above ground and at least 4 feet away from the trunk of the tree. A bear could easily reach a bag if it is too low or too close to the trunk of the tree. This is not the most secure method because using too small a branch makes it possible for a bear to break the branch and using too large a branch makes it possible for a bear to climb out to your bag. Bears can also chew through ropes holding bags up in trees. So if you plan on hanging your food, counterbalance the rope with a second bag. Then use a long stick to retrieve tour bags afterwards. Or you can suspend the food bag between two trees. Some camps have existing ropes or poles setup to use instead of hanging food from branches.

As a last resort, you could also store your food in the trunk of your vehicle. This should be avoided though, as vehicles are not airtight and odors could …

Dogs With Food Allergies: Novelty Protein Dog Food

The Story

I have a boxer, bull mastiff mix named Leo, who struggles with itching and scratching all the time. It got to the point to where I felt so bad for him not only because he’s my best friend but because I can tell he was uncomfortable. I finally had enough and gathered up my veterinarian’s phone number and took a trip to the vet. Leo was having rashes on his belly and kept licking his paws to were they were getting infected.

The first thing the vet asked me was, “what kind of food do you feed him?” I replied with “a healthy food with no corn or bi-products.” He said “that’s good but what is the formula?” I told him it was chicken. He said I might want to try feeding a novelty protein, something other than chicken beef or lamb, which are common ingredients found in dog food. The vet told me that most people come in and think that their dogs are scratching from fleas but it turns out it’s usually the food that they’re feeding. He said that if I try feeding a healthy dog food with a novelty protein my dog is most likely going to have a better reaction because he’s never been exposed to that specific meat source. The vet said that just like humans, dogs can become allergic to any ingredient at any time. He had mentioned some options of foods that I could feed but I insisted on going home and doing my own in-depth research for myself to see which dog food would be right for my dog. I came across a lot of very healthy foods that were grain free but I still didn’t know which direction to take. I finally narrowed it down to a couple limited ingredient diets which contained a novelty protein as the first ingredient, that might work for my dog. The types of dog food that I found were very simple, easy on the stomach and the skin.

The Progress

Week by week Leo became a whole new dog. His skin issues have improved greatly and the dermatitis areas between the paws disappeared. His rashes near the belly had also gone away.

The Solution

Turns out that Leo was simply having a reaction to the chicken. Now not that chicken is a bad ingredient but chicken is a cheaper protein and in most of the foods he ate, chicken was the main ingredient. After switching to a novelty protein the skin cleared up.

The Conclusion

If your dog has skin issues, take a look at the ingredients on the package of dog food you feed and see what the meat sources are. If you see chicken, beef or lamb, chances are that could be the issue. Also make sure there is no corn, wheat or soy. Grain free would be a good choice with a single novelty protein.…

Three Benefits of Using Quality Plastic Food Storage Containers

Just about everybody has had the unfortunate experience of opening their fridge door and instantly being overwhelmed by an unpleasant odor. This could be because some of your food has gone bad or simply because it has not been stored in a good container. Reducing or eliminating the smell is one of the benefits of quality plastic food storage containers.

Another benefit is that your food will stay fresh longer when it is refrigerated, as it will be properly sealed. Having several good quality food containers on hand will also allow you to buy your food in bulk, which is usually cheaper. You can then either put food in the containers and freeze it, or cook it and freeze it.

This will allow you to thaw it out later and reheat it in a microwave oven. If you plan on microwaving the food while it is still in the container, make sure the container is made for use in a microwave. You should also be able to place reusable food containers in the dishwasher.

There are two main types of food containers. One is the disposable kind and the other is the type you can use over and over again. Whatever type you prefer to use, it has to be able to keep the food fresh. You can find different types of containers for specific types of food, such as pasta and herbs. Good containers should seal properly and have lids that won’t bend or warp. The lids should also be easy to place on the container and to remove it.

There is a big difference in the quality of food storage containers on the market because they are made of different materials. They also vary quite a bit in their shape, color, size, and weight. The wide variety of containers means the price range is also quite variable. One of the major benefits of quality plastic food storage containers is that you will not have to throw your food out, as you can safely save it for another day.…

Making popcorn in the microwave is so easy that at times it can be boring to eat the same type of popcorn over and over again. However, you can now be a little creative and use some simple ingredients in your kitchen to make color microwave popcorn. This is also easy, but at least you will not be bored eating the same colored popcorn whilst sitting in front of your favorite television show.

Prepare microwave popcorn like you normally would. If you want to use butter as a part of the coloring process, opt for butter-free popcorn brand. Once you have finished popping the corn kernels, empty the packet into a bowl.

At this point you may get tempted to much on a few. Stop that temptation at once, as you will have more fun eating colored microwave popcorn.

Turkey Fryers – Electric or Propane?

Given the proximity of the up coming holidays, many people have been considering deep frying a turkey for the first time. There are many different kinds of turkey fryers out there to choose from. Primarily outdoor propane deep fryers or indoor counter top electric fryers. The differences between an outdoor deep fryer and an electric fryer vary greatly. We will start with electric turkey fryers.

First and foremost, electric fryers are made for indoors. You can take your electric fryer outdoors to use one day at a time. But you should bring it back indoors once everything has cooled, and put it away. It should never be left out on your patio like a backyard grill. The morning dew alone is enough to ruin the inner workings of an electric deep fryer.

You can take an electric deep fryer camping if you have electricity, but you can forget about tailgating with one unless you have a generator.

An electric turkey fryer can be a large counter top deep fryer. My first fryer was an electric counter top turkey fryer. It not only fries small turkeys as well as deep frying anything you want, but you can also steam and boil with it. I’ve been known to make Low Country Boil right in my house in the middle of the winter.

Not all so-called electric turkey fryers, are actually deep fryers. These units work with high radiant heat. They technically roast, not deep fry. There is really no oil involved. Less mess to clean up. You can roast other meats in these units, but you can not fry up a batch of french fries in one of these.

Most electric turkey fryers have a safety shut off feature if the oil becomes too hot. They mostly all have a thermometer or temperature gauge as well. This is a great feature because most of these units will tell you that your oil is up to temperature by a light on the gauge or unit. This is also good if you are frying things other than turkey. If you are frying up multiple batches of things, like Buffalo wings or onion rings, you should always let your oil come back up to temperature between batches.

Now, speaking of oil temperatures, electric fryers do take longer to heat oil than outdoor propane deep fryers. It also takes longer between batches to come back up to temperature. You want fried crispy food, not oil logged greasy food. So pay attention to your oil temperatures. Don’t get hasty and put food in before it’s time.

Lastly, you don’t have to worry about the kids and the dog needing to have somewhere else to play. Odds are they are not playing on the counter top or in the kitchen, so the odds of your indoor electric turkey fryer getting knocked over by a game of soccer or football are next to nil.

Now we’ve discussed electric turkey fryers. Let’s move on to outdoor propane turkey fryers.
