Best Birthday Party Ideas: A Birthday Idea Generator? How Cool!

The Party Planning was going nowhere.

In sheer exasperation the hostess yelled:

“I don’t need your help, your money, or your advice.

Just give me an IDEA!!”

Smiling, you handed her your Birthday Idea Generator. The tears of joy were instant.

A Birthday Idea Generator…what an idea.

An idea on its own will not guarantee you a cool birthday. We find people simply think that the idea will solve all their headaches. Or that the idea comes with a how to manual, unlimited budget and an army of workers at your command! Some do, it’s true. They usually cost a bomb and take months to get together. Is that you? Read on it will be of use. If it’s not you, then READ ON WITH EXTREME INTEREST.

“Where did you get that idea from??”

It’s a great question! The answer is equally great,

maybe a touch cheeky.

I farm them.

Seriously. And by the time you have read this article

you will be farming as well. Got your plough ready? Giddy-up!

In no order I think the following 10 methods of Farming

Ideas work the best. I do this every week, so that when it’s time I’m ready.

Create an Idea Finder

This could be a ring folder, a journal, a blog or a brain dump page on a web

site. The more 3D it is I find the better it is to show others and scratch

additional info on. You can scribble, glue cut-outs, sketch, alter ads in

papers, play with words, brainstorm gift ideas…and on and on. Whatever you

need to help you remember that spark!. My favorite way is to have an artists

sketch book 120pages, thick paper, spiral bound, $5. Every thought, idea,

cartoon, concept, whatever!, goes in it. I’ll chew threw about 6 per year!

Personalize it and make it part of your daily life.

They are everywhere and the pages are full of ads or content done — usually —

by professionals who get paid huge money to do this. Surf off their creativity

and ability to put their ideas in graphic or text. Think about when you are

killing time at the doctors waiting for an appointment, or at the mall in the

food court. Down time is a goldmine!

Junk Mail.

Yep, you heard me correctly. Before it gets binned, scan it, consider it and

file it. Total time: a minute or two tops! And you’ll get faster as your

birthday idea generator brain recognizes what’s valuable.

Look in the mirror!

How easy. Right there in your bathroom. You are full of experiences. Look at you

and look around you. Your hopes, dreams, aspirations. You are SO MUCH MORE THAN

WHAT LOOKS BACK AT YOU IN THE MIRROR. Visits your internal world for priceless

Beer Making Technique – Step by Step Guide on How to Make Beer

Balley Conversion

In order to be fermented by yeast, the food reserve of barley, starch must be converted by enzymes into simple sugars. Two enzymes, a- and b- amylases, carry out the conversion. The latter is present in barley – but the former is made only during germination of the grain.

Malting begins by immersing barley harvested at less than 12 percent moisture in water at 120 to 150C (550 + 600) for 40 to 50 hours. During this steeping period, the barley may be drained and given air rests, or the steep may be forcibly aerated. As the grain imbibes water, its volume increases by about 25 percent, and its moisture content reaches about 45 percents. A white roots heath, called a chit, breaks through the husk, and the chitted barley is then removed from the steep for germination.

Activated by water and oxygen, the root embryo of the barley corn secretes a plant hormone called gibberellic acid, which initiates the synthesis of a- amylase. The a- and b- amylases then convert the starch molecules of the corn into sugars that the embryo can use as food. Other enzymes, such as the proteases and b- glucanases, attack the cell wall around the starch grains, converting insoluble proteins and complex sugars (called glucans) into soluble amino acids and glucose.

Green malt is dried to remove most of the moisture, leaving 5 percent in lager and 2 percent in traditional ale malts. This process arrests enzyme activity but leaves 40 to 60 percent in an active state. Curing at higher temperatures promotes a reaction between amino acids and sugars to form melanoidins, which give both colour and flavour to malt.

In the first stage of kilning, a high flow of dry air at 500C (120F) for lager malt and 650C (1500F) for ale malt is maintained through a bed of green malt. This lowers the moisture content from 45 to 25 percent. A second stage of drying removes more firmly bound water, the temperature rising to 700 – 750 (1600 – 1700F) and the moisture content falling to 12 percent. In the final curing stage the temperature is raised to 750 – 900C (1700 – 1950F) for lager and 900 to 1050C for ale. The finished malt is then cooled and screened to remove root lets.

For efficient extraction with water, malt must be milled. Early milling processes used stones driven manually or by water or animal power, but modern brewing uses mechanically driven roller mills. The design of the mill and the gap between the rolls are important in obtaining the correct reduction in size of the malt. The object is to retain the husk relatively intact while breaking up the brittle modified starch into particles.

Mixing the Mash

The milled malt, called grist, is mixed with water, providing conditions in which starch, other molecules, and enzymes are dissolved and rapid enzyme action takes place. The solute-rich liquid produced in mashing is called the …

Cheerios For Fish Food – How to Feed Fish

What is the best fish food for your pets and or for your tropical showcases of salt water fish? Everyone has a different opinion about this one. But some have chosen their fish food merely by what the pet store tells them. That really limits you and limits your fish. If you are looking to grow, large, healthy, creative and unusually happy fish, then you need to go one step above what the fish guy tells you.

First you decide the purpose for your fish, the reason why you purchased them or obtained them other ways and then after you figure out your purpose, you can then figure out the proper food for them. Do you want regular, tiny fish swimming in the tank, run of the mill fish? Or do you want prize fish, fish that look a little bigger, fish that are a little more happier? Do you want to see your fish run to the top of the tank to get their old, dried fish food or do you want them to eat more like they eat out in nature, in the wild, by hunting for their own food, and getting that exercise that this hunting gives to them?

If you want the more natural feeding, then you would choose , live food. Next step below that would be frozen food that was once live and last but not least, is that dried food or flake food that comes in those round cylinders.

Here are things to consider when buying fish food:

1. Are your fish bottom feeders or top feeders? Bottom feeders might enjoy food that will drop to the bottom and or float-either way. Buy some Tubifex live worms. The pet store guy will have these in the refrigerator there. They look like brownish, reddish messy ball of tiny string worms. They smell horribly but I gather the fish love this. If you drop a small ball in the tank your fish will scurry up to get them immediately.

2. If you have salt water fish or tropical fish, you might want to try live brine shrimp as their meals. Of course you can supplement any fish meals with dried or flake food also.

You can purchase brand name food or no-frills food and your fish will survive just as well. So , how do I know this? I was raising some feeding fish once, and I ran out of fish food. So I crushed some Cheerios between my fingers and I fed the fish that food. They loved it, thrived on it so I never went back to using regular fish food. These fish grew big, from tiny little feeding fish. So my Cheerios were successful. Do not try anything that I write about as this was my own experience and I cannot guarantee it works for you or your particular kind of fish. IF you were going to experiment with this, you might begin by using your regular fish food and supplementing with …

Important Tips to Know Before Living Aboard a Boat and Dropping Out of the Rat Race

Many people have thought about dropping out of the rat race and retire to a live aboard boat in order to experience the simpler life and travel to exotic places. There are many benefits associated with this type of lifestyle, and waking up in the morning to the smell of the salt air and friendly neighborhood tropical birds looking for their morning breakfast in your backyard are definitely in the top two! Once you’ve made the decision to live aboard a boat, then there are several more choices that you need to decide on.

What type of boat will it be, a mono-hull or a catamaran? What is the length of hull that you’re looking for? How much money are you prepared to invest into the boat and where will you dock it? There will be so much less space than what you’re used to in a house, and storage places will come at a premium. Some boats have more space than others, and you will soon find that out when you start attending boat shows around the country or world. How much comfort are you willing to give up for a life of adventure on the high seas?

Mono-hulls are normally what people think of when boating comes to mind, but they do have plenty of drawbacks. They have a deep keel in order to help as ballast and to keep the vessel upright, which is highly useful if you are out on the ocean! But because of this keel, there will also be a great amount of rocking and rolling from side to side as waves hit the boat. If you aren’t used to this motion, you could very well end up with a bad case of sea sickness that will spoil your cruise. Mono-hulls do tend to have more space onboard for living and storage however, because the shape of the hull is very conducive to that in relation to depth. You will immediately realize though, that the width or beam leaves much to be desired and is often narrower with regard to the total length.

In my opinion the hull of choice is the catamaran, which is a much wider or beamy vessel, and some of the larger boats are so stable in rough weather that a champagne glass sitting on the galley table will not tip or fall over! The ideal length for a cruising catamaran to comfortably accommodate a married couple is anywhere from 36 feet to 55 feet, and the price goes up quite a bit each foot that is added on. A catamaran is designed to sit on top of the water more than a mono-hull, and is usually much wider in beam. For example, the typical 50 foot mono-hull might have a 12 -16 foot beam, but a 50 foot catamaran might have a 26 – 30 foot beam! This really leads to stability in very rough seas, with a huge reduction in the side to side rolling of the mono-hulls. …

Cleaning Grills – The Good and Bad Sides of Dirty Grills

Firing up the outdoor grill for an al fresco taste of food can be exciting. However, some folks cook on a grimy grill in view that dirt and bacteria will be eliminated by the heat of the grill. But, who wants to eat a fish cooked on a grate covered in last week’s dinner? Other than that, cooking on a dirty grill can impair the taste of any food. It is unsanitary and unappetizing and is completely discouraged.

Cleaning your grill does not need to be immaculately done, though, you just have to make sure it will not be loaded with fungus, mold, yeast, and bacteria that can grow and multiply in the grill. What you put in your grill is bacteria’s favorite food – raw meat. In fact, it’s not advisable to reuse the marinade that you had raw ribs, chicken or seafood soaking in as it contains bacteria that could not be killed by the heat of the grill.

The way to clean a grill depends on whether it uses charcoal or gas. But generally, you can place the cooking grates in a pan of hot, soapy water and degrease with a dish detergent. Scrub the cooking surfaces with a plastic brush or scouring pad. For deeply-embedded dirt, sprinkling it with baking soda before scrubbing can be helpful. Rinse well and let dry. After the grill has dried, wipe the cooking grates with oil. This acts as a stabilizer and will help keep food from sticking.

Like any cookware, grills should also be cleaned after every use because cleaning is easiest this way. While the grill is cool enough to touch, it makes it easier to scrub and remove food particles. Leaving it to cool with the burnt food stuffs on makes the job much more difficult. But again, washing your grill to get rid of left food particles and the ash out are very important, but the inside doesn’t have to be aridly oil-free. The seasoned black “dirty-looking” grate can help protect it between cooking, protecting and arming you against dreaded rust.

Like a good cast iron grill pan, regular grilling seasons the inside of the grill providing a good layer of seasoning which makes it easier to hold at a specific temperature over a very dry grill. If you have ever tried to use a regular grill as smoker to make some barbecue, you know how important this is. If you constantly want to get your grill grates super clean, start up a fire as normal, leaving the cooking grates off of the grill. Once the fire is blazing hot, cover the top side of the cooking grates with aluminum foil, then position the grate over the hot coals. Cover the grill and let the grates heat up for about five minutes. The foil traps in heat and super heats the bars, crumbling away burnt on food and grease.

If grilling provides for a wholesome diet, grilling the food in a clean grill provides maximum flavor …

PET Plastic Containers Vs PVC Plastic Containers – What’s The Difference? And Why You Should Care

Plastics come in many varieties and it can be difficult to figure out which types to use for our various needs. Seemingly similar, different types of plastics vary more than just in their names, but also drastically so when it comes to how they are produced and how they should best be utilized. Ways that may be unseen or unconscious to consumers or customers, can impact the product housed in or around the various types of plastics.

One common type of plastic is Polyvinyl chloride, familiar to many as PVC. This is a cheap plastic that is widely used in construction, and may often times be seen when creating pipes, hoses, cables, and roofing material.

Another type of plastic is called PET. PET, technically called Plyethylene terephthalate, is commonly used in packaging with containers for storage or food. PET is a lightweight and durable and ideal for use around a multitude of products such as food or nonperishable supplies.

Unlike PET, PVC actually breaks down with exposure to UV rays. PVC will break down over time regardless of sun exposure, and it also leaches chemical onto whatever it is in contact with. From the very beginning PVC emits dangerous compounds, and well after it is disposed of the material can still have negative impacts. PVC ends up either in landfills or incinerated. When burned PVC emits hydrogen chloride and dioxin gases that can be very harmful to everything around it.

Since PVC can add chemicals to whatever it comes into contact with, it would not be a safe option when storing or displaying food or edibles. Even products that are not edible may be harmed by the chemical output of PVC, and the product can be changed or damaged over long term exposure to PVC.

PET contains and UV stabilizer that makes it last through contact with the sun and UV rays. PET can be recycled and remade into future plastic containers or plastic items, and can also be remade into various new products such as clothing. PET also has a higher recycling rate than most types of plastics.

The recycling process of PET has minimal impact on the environment, and is very similar to the process behind recycling paper. No harmful gasses are emitted, and the PET containers can be completely remade into more PET containers, eliminating high levels of material loss through the process. Recycling PET is also easy to do, and can be deposited in most neighborhood recycling pickup deposits instead of complicated recycling procedures that can be a hassle.

PET is far more versatile than PVC. PET has no harmful impact on the variety of types of materials that may come into contact with it, whereas PVC should be limited to mainly industrial use in building or construction. PET is also much more environmentally friendly than PVC and can be recycled. PET also has more long term lasting power since it will not harm or alter materials stored in or around it over long periods of …

Packing For Your Sanibel Island Vacation

So you’re going to Sanibel Island, Florida on vacation! Congratulations! It will be a fun and relaxing vacation with many happy memories. But first, you need to pack all your stuff so you are prepared for your journey to paradise.

Most likely you are staying in a resort, cottage or condo which will be larger than a regular hotel room. Most of these units have a small kitchen area for your use. So let’s start with meals and snacks and what to bring regarding food and drinks.

I like to bring snacks and drinks with me so I don’t have to make a visit to the grocery store. Nothing says drudgery more than having to go to the grocery store while on vacation. So, I pack a box with breakfast items such as Pop-Tarts and Rice Krispie Treats! I also bring small individually wrapped snacks to munch on during the week. Examples are bring potato chips, cookies, peanuts etc. I like the food to be individually wrapped because it makes it easier to put the snacks in your beach bag. Also, south Florida is well known for having small black ants that like your food! Keeping your food sealed (I recommend zip-lock bags) will prevent food loss after an ant invasion!

I also bring a large quantity of water, juices and diet drinks. Place the drinks in the refrigerator as soon as you arrive and then you are set for the week.

Next, you need to think of what you need for the beach! Items to remember are your favorite chair, lounger, umbrella, sand digger and straw mats. Most of the hotels, condos and resorts provide chairs for you (some do not, so check beforehand). So many are not comfortable thus I prefer to bring my own chair with me. Remember to bring your beach bag with all the essentials, such as beach towels, visor, suntan lotion, water spray bottle, sunglasses, cover-up and a book or a magazine.

Next, what do to you pack to wear for a week on Sanibel Island? The best thing to remember is that the temperature will be comfortable most of the year, so heavy clothing is not needed. In the summer it can be hot, so think cool cottons. Shorts and short sleeve shirts are a must. Shorts and tops are fine for every restaurant. The restaurants are all casual (but no cut offs, flip flops or tee-shirts for the nicer places). Leave your suit, tie and dress at home. You probably will wear your swim suit most of the day. And I have gone to many restaurants wearing my swim suit under a cover-up for lunch (but don’t do it for dinner). It’s a resort-like atmosphere all over the island. Be comfortable and enjoy your vacation!

I would bring a light jacket for when it rains. It will help keep you dry as you dash to the vehicle. During the summer months, be prepared for monsoon-like rains during the afternoon and early evening …

Simple Considerations In Restaurant Design

Great food and outstanding customer service are the most frequently cited keys to restaurant success. While quality food and service are two foundations of a successful restaurant, good restaurant design is vital to customer gratification and long term success. Good interior design creates a beautiful and functional dining space that enhances customer’s enjoyment of meals and entices guests to return.

Creating an excellent dining experience for customers requires a balance of design, technical considerations and function. While planning the restaurant interior, consider the architecture and infrastructure of the building. Create a harmonious design by combining existing aspects of the structure with attention to detail in several key areas.

Begin by identifying the expectations of the restaurant’s target clientele. For example, fine dining customers may expect more space and privacy when dining than guests of more casual establishments. Families with children may prefer a relaxed environment that appeals to children. Understanding the needs of guests allows owners to develop a design that pleases customers.

Dining Room

When planning the dining room, consider the number of guests expected at peak meal hours. A good restaurant design will accommodate this number while maintaining customer comfort. Customers should be able to move around easily and dine without feeling crowded.

Create the right atmosphere by choosing furnishings, colors and lighting suited to the restaurant’s theme and clientele. An owner of a family friendly restaurant, for example, may choose bright colors and lighting to create an environment suited to children. Restaurants that cater to adults and fine dining often choose more subdued lighting and furnishings that create a more intimate environment.

Owners of restaurants that serve alcohol may benefit from creating a separate bar area. A bar serves as a place for guests to order a drink and relax while waiting to be seated. This area also allows single customers to sit for a meal without waiting for a table. In restaurants with heavy weekend traffic, the bar area should be as large as space allows.

A restaurant serving high quality meals requires a well-designed kitchen. The kitchen should be able to accommodate all necessary equipment along with all needed kitchen staff. Include areas for food preparation, storage and handling. Areas for handling shipments and washing dishes are also necessary. A well planned kitchen allows the restaurant to operate efficiently, ensuring customer satisfaction.

When space allows, a restaurant’s public restrooms should be able to accommodate several guests. Tables should be located away from restrooms or separated from them by partitions. If possible, employee restrooms should be located away from public restrooms.

Staff and Office Space

The restaurant layout should include a space for staff to store their personal belongings. A restaurant’s office should be a secure area suitable for storing money and important items or documents. Ideally, office space should be located in the back of the layout.

At all stages of restaurant planning, keep the customer’s needs and expectations in mind. Thoughtful attention to these details allows the restaurateur to create …

The Breville Kitchen Appliance Company – A Quick History

The Breville Radio company was established in Australia in 1932 and originally produced only radios. The name, Breville, was a combination of the surnames of the co-founders, Bill O’Brien and Harry Norville. During World War Two the company aided the war effort by manufacturing mine detectors. After the war, the radio business continued until one of the founders, Bill O’Brien, sensed a change coming in the shape of television and the radio business was sold, turning his attention to the world of small appliances.

Bill O’Brien led Breville until 1968 when he resigned his position as managing director and his son John O’Brien, took over. Under John’s leadership the Breville Research and Development Centre was founded and Breville flourished.

Breville has always been a major innovator and has led the way with many technical advances. During the 1970s, Breville produced the scissor-action sandwich toaster and the Kitchen Whiz food processor which revolutionised Australian kitchens – the sandwich toaster became one of the most successful product launches ever when it reached about 10{ccdfc561878e9246e1a18999d5a21dd519dc1b039f0564ab04c9b3978134babb} of Australian households in its first year of production, with an astounding 400,000 sales.

Breville has always used feedback from its customers to help improve its products and to introduce new appliances. Their success has not been limited to Australia with numerous overseas offices and awards to match. Breville now operates in over thirty countries, including the USA.

Breville was acquired by Housewares International who have continued to uphold Brevilles long-established standards. Breville today has an extensive product catalogue and its products can be found on shelves of electrical stores around the world. The company still holds true to its original values and always seeks to give its customers a satisfying experience.

Breville’s ikon range of products is a good sample of their current range. The ikon range includes blenders, toasters, a top-rated juicer and a cordless kettle. Of course, Breville has a far more extensive product range but this sub-range showcases some great looking, quality products all with truly useful features and benefits. From the moment you pick an appliance up the quality is evident. These are most definitely not appliances with that “planned obsolescence” feel.

Breville still has the same commitment to quality and customer which helped it establish and maintain a great position in the market for over seventy-eight years. Innovation and high standards will help keep Breville at the forefront for a long time to come.…
